This is one of the biggest issues with hiring a tree care company. 

Are they insured?

Do they have enough coverage?

Should they be bonded?

Do they need workers compensation?

Whenever hiring a contractor, these are the rules that apply:

1: Never take a contractor's word that they have coverage, even if the have an insurance binder on paper.  A paper insurance binder is only as good as the person handing it to you.  Always call and verify coverage from an agent.

2: There should be enough coverage for a total loss

3: Bonding is only for government bids and work and is not needed for private jobs

4:  Every contractor should have workers compensation coverage.  If a contractor gets hurt on your property, workers compensation will cover his injuries and lost wages, If there is no coverage in place they can sue a homeowner/buisness for damages.
